Description:
Virgo is a Michelson laser interferometer made of two 3 km long orthogonal arms. Gravitational waves, produced by coalescences of binary systems and supernovae as far as the Virgo Cluster and beyond, can be detected in the frequency range from 10 to 6,000 Hz. Virgo is located at the European Gravitational Observatory, at Cascina, near Pisa.
