Description: The Submillimeter Array (SMA), a collaboration between the Smithsonian
Astrophysical Observatory and the Academia Sinica Institute of Astronomy
and Astrophysics of Taiwan, is a pioneering radio-interferometer located
near the summit of Mauna Kea, Hawaii. It consists of eight 6 m dishes
which can be separated by up to 500 m to study a wide range of
astronomical objects at high angular resolution.
